"BACKBONE CONVERSATIONS"

We always hear that "small business is the backbone of the US economy".
In "BACKBONE CONVERSATIONS", the OSTCC has created a collection of stories of
business owners, community advocates, and political leaders.

Woodlawn Theater

Woodlawn Theatre built 1945 is the diamond of the OSTCC located in the Deco District.

Visit with the new operator and owner of Woodlawn Comedy, Mr. Keith La Rosa, operating out of the Woodlawn Theatre since January 2025.

Putting a lot of love and reverence for this icon of the OSTCC, he shares his projects and goals.  The community supporting this endeavor of revitalization gives him pride.

Former Mayor Ed Garza

Former Mayor Ed Garza recounts the creation of the Deco District on the Old Spanish Trail Cultural Corridor. He begins his story with the influence of the Jefferson Monticello neighborhoods that lead him to be Mayor of San Antonio. Mayor Garza as a landscape architect and master planner, takes us through the process of "placemaking" which the Deco District is a national example.

Charlotte Kahl Former National Director of the Old Spanish Trail

Ms. Kahl delightfully tells the story of how she became an advocate of culture and history by adopting the Old Spanish Trail that begins in Florida and ends in California. At 83 years old, she reminisces 20 years of leading the marketing and promoting the Old Spanish Trail nationally and locally.

Junction Antiques

Junction Antiques is located on Blanco Road on the roundabout at Fulton.

Located in the Beacon Hill neighborhood, it has been in business close to 10 years and an anchor on the unique array of businesses and restaurants.

The shop has many vendors that have booths with amazing finds of glass ware, furniture, garden delights, vinyl records and clothing.

Well priced to sell, you will meet with Edna Felan the owner who’s easy manner makes everyone comfortable.

You will enjoy the time spent and are sure to find a treasure to take home.

Copper Rose Wine

Elizabeth and her husband Victor Eichhorn embarked on Copper Rose opening the shop in January 2025. She talks about the ecosystem of business and neighborhoods that can be created for economic vitality. Their employees, gardeners, designers for the shop, all live in the neighborhood. Ever mindful, Elizabeth is conscious of the small business role, as a backbone to the local economy.
