Our amazing bakers toil to create the pillowy danish, aromatic breads, mouth-watering quiche, and other baked goods that you can enjoy here each morning. All of this from humble beginnings… After getting married, Jack and I relocated Scratch Kitchen to San Antonio. We’ve begun slowly restoring the historic property that houses the bakery, and we’ve worked to expand our catering and wholesale services. We’re hands-on owners, and we are blessed to have so many returning customers who feel more like friends and family these days. We could not have asked for a better home for Scratch. M.K. DAVIS RESTAURANT

Our story begins in 1956 when Melvin & Aurora Davis purchased a Lone Star Ice House. They immediately changed the name to M.K. Davis Ice House. Little did they know they were history in the making. M.K. Davis began with ice cold beer, a few picnic tables, and Augie sausage botanas. As the number of customers began to grow so did our menu. Mr. Davis took the kitchen as Mrs. Davis took care of the customers. They began small by serving hamburgers, hot dogs, and fried chicken. During the 60s, is when M.K. Davis began serving their ice cold 32oz frosted schooners of beer. Throughout the years, they have added a variety of American, Mexican, and Seafood dishes including their famous Chicken Fried Steak, Fried Pollock, and Crispy Dogs. What began as a small ice house has become known as an Alamo City Classic. Although Melvin & Aurora are no longer with us, it’s their legacy of cold beer, delicious food, and good ol fashion hospitality that we, as a family, strive to maintain.
